Outline of the Course:


Section 1: Theory of Accessible Prenatal Yoga

This is an introductory Section that covers the theory of Accessible Yoga & Prenatal Yoga and how when combined, they form a powerful practice for women of all ages, abilities, backgrounds, health risks and of course trimesters. As an instructor, you will learn about your unique role in making yoga for accessible for pregnant women.


Section 2: Stages of Pregnancy

Most prenatal education revolves around the three main trimesters of pregnancy. With Accessible Prenatal Yoga, we approach pregnancy in five main stages, including Labour & Delivery and also the Postnatal Period as separate stages. As Accessible Prenatal Yoga instructors, you will learn how to accommodate each student for each stage, as well as provide education and resources about stages 4 & 5 where you may not be physically present.


Section 3: Pregnancy Discomforts, Risks and Health Conditions

This section covers as much as possibe regarding what can go wrong in pregnancy. With this knowledge you become more aware about the need for accessibility and the approach you can take as an instructor that will accommodate for all of these.


Section 4: Pregnancy Hatha Guide

This section is predominantly asana based with tools and tips on teaching a successful class. The class outline is introduced as well as best practices on structuring a class and safely guiding students through. The emphasis here is on stages 1-3.


Section 5: Labour & Delivery

This is also asana based with partners as well as labour positions for women. You will be equipped with information to share with students on how they can manage pain, use assymetrical positions to help with labour as well as mental strengthening practices to share with women.


Section 6: Postnatal Rehabilitation 

This section covers the physical changes to a woman's body and the grief that needs to be expressed in order for the baby blues to not turn into full blown post-natal depression. You will learn asanas and yoga techniques to help a woman recover from her pregnancy, focusing on rehabilitating her body.


Section 7: Non-Physical Yoga Practices 

This final section covers all the subtler practices of yoga that women can take off the mat. This is particularly useful for women who are on bedrest, in the hospital or have any complications during pregnancy, delivery or after the baby is born.
