Dr. Cunningham is a leading spiritual and motivational speaker and is also an author, educator, and certified yoga therapist in the field of Health Psychology and Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Cunningham has a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and has a private psychotherapy practice in Charlottesville, Virginia. She is also an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Virginia and is the President of Positive Health Solutions. Dr. Cunningham is also the Founder and Director of the renowned certification training program Cardiac Medical Yoga for heart patients and is the Founder of Hospital Bed Yoga and Limited Mobility Yoga. Dr. Cunningham has been very instrumental is developing initiatives and innovative programs in the emerging fields of Lifestyle Medicine, Neuroscience, Psychology and Medical Yoga and Mindfulness. She has a unique ability to bring together divergent concepts and make them understandable to her audience. She has been a consultant to businesses and hospitals for over 30 years and has been an innovator in the field of Behavioral and Lifestyle Medicine.

Dr. Cunningham is also the author of two innovative books: Medical Yoga: A Gentle and Modified Practice of Yoga for Assistance in Healing and Cardiac Yoga. She has also produced three popular CD’s entitled: 1) Healing Journey; 2) Before and After Surgery: Guided Imagery & Relaxation for Surgery Patients; and 3) Neuroscience, Yoga, and Mindfulness. Dr. Cunningham has been prominently featured as an expert in Lifestyle Medicine, Corporate Health, Medical Yoga, and Spiritual Psychology. Her knowledge base and her informative and inspiring lectures and retreats make her a much sought-after speaker for keynote presentations and workshops. Frequently Asked Questions


When does the course start and finish?
Option One. If you are taking the course for general information or Yoga Alliance credit you can sign up and finish whenever it is convenient for you. Option Two. This course is an authorized training program through IAYT and provides credit towards your re-certification as a Yoga Therapist. If you are taking this course for APD (Advanced Professional Development) credit through the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) please read through the information listed herein. This course provides 45 hours for APD credit. These 45 hours are divided between the on-line section and the in-person 5-day workshop. If you are taking this 45-hour APD course for credit, there are additional requirements that you will need to fulfill as follows: 1. You will need to attend in person the Neuroscience, Yoga, and Mindfulness 5-day retreat course. For further information on email us at [email protected] 2. The in-person retreat provides you with 27.5 credit hours. The on-line portion provides you with the remaining 17.5 credit hours. You must complete both segments of the training, i.e. the on-line and the in-person retreat in order to get the full 45 hours APD credit hours. 3. As part of the requirements for fulfilling the 45-hour credit option you will be required to take and pass an oral test that will be given at the in-person, 5-day retreat. During the retreat those taking the course for APD credit will meet with Dr. Mala Cunningham in a private group to review business items, form study groups, and review for the oral test. It’s a supportive environment and all material will be covered. 4. After completion of all the requirements you will receive a certificate of completion for 45 hours of APD credit. 5. Time Frame for APD Credit: You have 90 days prior or 90 days after the 5-day retreat to complete the on-line portion of the training program in order to receive your certification and credit towards re-certification. 6. Please note: It will be to your advantage to take the on-line portion of the training before arrival to the 5-day in-person retreat.
How long do I have access to the course?
For Option One enrollees we will be happy to provide you with a full year to complete the course. We understand that everyone has a busy schedule. Feel free to take your time and complete it within a year of signing up.
